Recipes And Homemade Toys

Toys and treats are always fun to make with your Kids and

Grand-kids, try it and save some $$$ while having fun.

Bird Toys

Bird toys can be as simple as cardboard paper towel tubs hanging from the top of the cage to very elaborate beaded and leather strapping toys with chain.

Birds love to chew up old books (they don't eat them they just rip it up into little shreds). Take old paperback books and cut them into one inch strips using a band saw and then drill holes through the strips of books (adults should do this part) now using only the black and white pages drop them down some chain with a bell or other placeholder at the bottom and mix wood and rawhide for different textures and colors. You can add beads and leather strips to create volume. Have fun and be creative.

Recipes

Egg Hash/ Egg Food (why buy the boxed fake stuff)

To make “Egg Hash” hard boil appropriate amount of eggs for about 3 days worth of food (4 eggs for 8 birds). I always use cage free eggs "farm raised" would even be better if you can get them since they have more nutrition. Keep the shells and dry them on a paper towel and crush them into small pieces and include them into your “Egg Hash”. Chop up Parrot safe veggies such as Zucchini, Carrots (Defrosted Frozen mixed veggies work well). You can add any kind of safe veggie you want along with seeds and fruit and I always add a bit of pellets into the mix for added nutrition. This should be changed everyday and it can take some time for birds that are not used to it to begin trusting it. You can add more of their favorite seed at first to get them used to eating this nutritious food.

Bird bread

One package of cornbread mix any kind (jiffy etc.)

Supplement the milk for water and eggs (In a blender add the whole eggs shell and all for the calcium till shells are broken up)

Add defrosted frozen veggies, fruits, seeds, grain etc. (any kind of safe foods will work. I add fruit to half and veggies to half)

Mix in the eggs and add water if needed to the right consistency ( it should look like thick pancake batter) cook until done approximately the same time as the box says just keep checking and have fun with it. They freeze well so you can make extra and freeze and then remove them the night before you use them.

We are always looking for more Recipes and fun Homemade toys;
